Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply?

You may fill out the online application below to apply. Separate applications MUST be completed for admission to the School of Arts and Sciences on Thomasville Road (SAST) and the School of Arts and Sciences at The Centre (SASC). Separate applications must also be completed for each child you want to enroll.

Please be sure to update your application if your contact information changes. You may submit your application at any time during the year and there is no cost to apply.

What is the admissions process?

The admissions process for both schools is based on a lottery system, as required by Florida Law.

SAS on Thomasville has the capacity to serve 450 students ranging from kindergarten to 8th grade and has more than 1200 in the lottery pool for all grades.

SAS at The Centre has the capacity to serve 450 students from kindergarten to 8th grade and also has more applicants than seats available.

We do not have a chronological “waiting list.” However, some students do have a priority for openings, such as siblings of children who are current students and children of teachers and staff. If no priority students are waiting, openings are filled by lottery drawing. Due to our full enrollment, someone must leave the school in order for there to be an opening.

Does SAS charge tuition?

SAS is a public charter school and does not charge tuition. We do ask for an annual Program Enhancement Contribution (PEC) of only $150 per student that helps us to continue to provide the variety of programs we offer at SAS.

What are the requirements to apply?

The child MUST be 5 years old on or before September 1 of the year he or she enters kindergarten.

In accordance with the Controlled Open Enrollment process, students MUST be residents of Florida at the time of enrollment and must provide proof of address. (Families may apply before being a resident, but should update the application after moving to Florida.)

When are drawings held?

With the exception of kindergarten, drawings are held throughout the year as openings become available. For the Fall kindergarten class, drawings are held in early March. Applications must be on file by 11:59pm March 1st of the year the student is entering kindergarten to be included in the March lottery.

We will only contact you if your application is drawn.

When do I have to reapply?

Applications stay on file for three years; after this time a new application must be submitted to be in the lottery for openings.

How can I set up a tour?

Tours are scheduled separately for each school during the school year. Tours last approximately one hour. Be sure to arrive a few minutes early and bring your driver’s license so we can properly sign you in through our visitor system. Due to space limitations, please do not bring children to the tour. RSVP to reserve your space at the appropriate school below. If there are no tours currently scheduled, we will email you when new dates are available.
